Color Me Dark is about a girl named Nellie that lives in the time of the great migration, when slavery ended. She has a big family with a sister named Erma Jean. They live in a funeral home with their Grandparents and mom and dad. I would say Nellie is pretty brave and Erma Jean is more sensitive but they both stand up for each other. Near the middle of the story Nellie and her mom dad, and sister move to Chicago. At first Nellie feels home sick but at the end she likes Chicago and wherever her mom, dad, and sister live she lives no matter where it is. I would recommend this book for someone who likes history.
