Day 1 By: Danielle Vargo

OE008

Introduction

In my journal you will learn all about Snake River in Lake Geneva, and what the different activities the 6th grade did. My journal includes photos about the outdoor Ed trip. The trip was from May 2nd-May 4th. This was a very fun experience and I wish I could of stayed longer!!!

Bus ride from Marie Murphy to Snake River Adventure Park

I am sitting next to Margaret. I am on bus number 4. Next to Margaret and me were Jackie, Anna, and Marina. Bus 4 had all of the luggage and sports equipment so there was not a lot of room. I knew we were in Wisconsin when I saw a huge sign that said CHEESE!!! Margaret and I were playing on my ipod most of the time. We arrived at Snake River at 11:15.

Getting Settled

Finally we arrived. I stepped off the bus and could not walk straight. The first thing we had to do was move all the luggage onto the parking lot. Then we had to get our daypacks out of the bus. When I got it everybody had to carry all of our luggage up a huge hill to the triplets. I was in triplet 2. When we got in the cabin everyone had to choose where they were going to sleep. I chose a single bed close to Margaret.

Lunch

Finally it was time for lunch. We had grilled cheese, tomato soup, veggie soup, veggies, rolls, lemonade, cookies, and fruit. It was really good. The food was very different from Marie Murphy’s food. The only things I did not like was that it smelled really bad and everyone had to drink a full glass of water that smelled like chlorine.

OE037

Dinner

The first day for dinner we had spaghetti and meatballs, cookies, fruit, diner rolls, soda, soup, and veggies. It was soooooo good. I just had plain pasta with all the other sides.

Dorm time

After dinner we had time to talk to each other in our dorm. At this time we could take a shower (which everyone did). Everyone had to go to bed at 10:00 and all silent was at 10:15. It took a long time until everyone was silent because we were laughing the whole time at Margaret!!

Day 2

Breakfast

Rise and shine . We had to wake up at 7:15 and be ready for breakfast at 8:00. For breakfast we had eggs, bacon, sausage, bacon, fruit, cookies, orange juice, and lemonade.

Orienteering

After breakfast we headed to the field to meet Mr. Ogden for orienteering. Orienteering is when you use a compass to find your way around the woods. We played a game where Mr. Ogden gives us a penny and you put it on the ground and he tells you directions away from your penny and somehow he gets you all the way back to your penny.

OE Group 2039

Survival

In survival we learned to make a fire with different materials. After we learned to make a fire the group got a new task. Everybody had to pair up and then make a shelter out of wood. I think it was challenging because there was some arguments on how we were going to make the shelter. My group decided to make a teepee out of boards and logs. A few hours later I noticed that there was a tiny tick on my arm!!!

New games

After survival we headed up to the field to play games!!! We played three games called Keep away, Elbow Tag, and Ultimate Nerf. I felt frustrated during two of the games because all the boys would only pass to boys. So I never got passed to during the whole two games.

Lunch

The second day we ate pizza. Eight people sat at my table with no teacher. Margaret, Jessica, Annie, Xochital, Marina, Jackie, Anna, and me.

Archery

In archery we had to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow at a target. I thought it was difficult to get the arrow in the bow just right. The first time I tried to get the arrow in the bow it kept on falling off the bow. The second time I got it but when I went to shoot it fell off right when I released my grip on the bow. By the third time I got it right and I hit the deer target in the neck.

OE Group 2057

Nature

In nature we talked about our five senses. We all played a game where your eyes were closed and you get a rock. You have to use some of your senses to remember what your rock feels like, so when the teacher takes it away and puts it in a pile you should know which one is yours. The next thing we did was we got our thumbs taped to our hands like a chipmunk and tried to do normal things we do but with out thumbs. It wasdifficult. After we went in the woods and looked for clues for candy. I found one of the clues so I got an airhead.

InsectsOE Group 2077

In insects we learned to recognize different insects. We also played a game where every one got a paper bug taped on their back and you would have to guess which bug we were. My bug was a blue dragonfly!! After the game we had to build a bug out of 4 gumdrops,1  orange wedge, licorice and tooth picks. It was fun. My bugs name was the Candy Eater. It eats itself if it gets hungry!!!

OE Group 2053

Team Building

After we got settled in everybody had to go to the big field. We played many games. The games we played were “Brawl Ball”, and “Blop tag” and Every One Is It. Brawl ball is when you and your partner stood on opposite sides. Then the camp counselor calls a number (1-31) and you run out and try to score a goal. Margaret and I were number 27. Blop Tag is when one person was it and you try to make a chain of people. You try to tag as many people as you can. The last game we played was Everyone Is It. The way you play it is you try to not get tagged by any one.

Dinner

For dinner we ate chicken strips. It was good. I had soda so I was hyper in the cabin. It was the last dinner here so I was sad to leave.

Camp Fire

After dinner we headed to the campfire to roast smores!!! I had 4 smores!!! They were really good. I sat next to Anna and Margaret. I brought a blanket because it was really cold. Mr.Thursten told scary ghost stories that made you think they were real!!!

OE265

Dorm time

After the awesome campfire it was time to get ready for bed. Almost everyone took a shower. After everyone was ready for bed no one could fall  asleep so the Spanish teacher sang us a Spanish lullaby for fun.

Day 3

Breakfast

The third day we had waffles, fruit, cookies, orange juice, lemonade. I was so sad during breakfast because we had to leave after lunch. L Always during breakfast we talk really loud and complain about things!!!

High ropes/rock wall

After breakfast it was time to do the most fun thing of the trip, the high ropes course and climbing the 50 foot rock wall. I have been waiting to do this the whole trip. When we got there it was so cool. It was like a jungle gym up in the air. It was so cool. After it was time to climb the rock wall. I was the first girl to climb all the way to the top and zip line down!!! It was soooooo cool to jump off the platform. At first I was really scared to walk off the platform but I did and it was worth it.

OE316OE Group 2095

Lunch

The second day we ate chicken strips with mashed potatoes. After lunch I was really sad because after we had to load the bus and leave Snake River known as outdoor Ed.

Closing

I had a great time at Outdoor ED. I really wished I could of stayed there for 3 more days!! I really enjoyed staying in triplet 2. I loved the food and people at Snake River. I loved to look out the window in my dorm and see lake Geneva!!! Thank you Mr. Ogden for planning this trip!!! :)

Proportion Project

April 23rd, 2011 Written by 13daniellev · Math

In Ms.Allen’s class I had to make a project with 15 different choices using proportions. I had to pick 3 choices in the list.

One of my choices was cooking for a hundred. I found a recipe on recipe.com. I chose brownie cookies because I love brownies and cookies. One example of how I did it was for baking soda.  0.25/24= x/100     x=1.04 teaspoon.

I liked the proportion project because I was able to pick my own ideas.

How Many People Live in Your House? By Danielle

November 4th, 2010 Written by 13daniellev · Math

Screen shot 2010-10-28 at 12.45.42 PM

This graph represents how many people live in each student’s house.  This graph is bell shaped. Most students households are clumped around the center, and the greater the distance a number is from the center, the fewer people have that number.  Many houses have four to five people, because eleven of nineteen students have that number living in their house. That is probably because they have a lot of siblings or a grandparent who  lives with them. There is a gap from 8-9 and only one student with over 10 people in their home. This is probably because  most students do not have that many brothers or sisters or other relatives living with them. I have 3 people living in my home, which is low compared to the rest of the class. How many people live in your house?

Back to School-6th grade

October 21st, 2010 Written by 13daniellev · English

*This is my first writing example for the 2010-2011 school year. It has not been edited. I hope you enjoy my letter!

Dear Mom and Dad,

I am looking forward to getting to know my teachers more. I am also looking forward to getting deeper into my work, Looking forward to knowing where I am going and to not getting lost anymore.  I always get lost in the 7th grade hallway!  I like the 6th grade hallway because of the air conditioning, unlike the other parts of the school, which is very muggy and hot.  I want to learn and master Math with Miss Allen.  I always look forward to Math.

When you come to my school, I want you to see my locker, Miss Allen’s room (172), the Science Room (163), Miss Bialk’s room (161), the Gym (125), the Drama Room (260), and last the Art Room, which is upstairs (261).  Which is across from the Drama Room.

It is a lot but those are all my favorite classes.

The last thing is My Goals.  I have two.  My first one is that I want to get straight As because I want to be a Veterinarian when I grow up.  My second one is that I want to have perfect behavior the whole year!  I will accomplish these goals by trying hard, having a good attitude, being on time and listening to my teachers.  If I do these things, I will be successful!

Love

Clara Barton by Elizabeth Raum

Blurber: Danielle Vargo

Biography

This book, Clara Barton tells a lot about Clara Barton’s life. Here is one chapter, it is about the American Red Cross. It says she tried to convince the U.S. government to join the international Red Cross. At first nobody seemed interested by the idea. She never gave up. Clara Barton knew it would work. It would save people from fires, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. Soon a fire came it killed 500 people. Then she knew it was time to ask about using the American Red Cross. It worked. The government used it to help the flood in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in 1889.

I loved this book because I used it to help me with my research for a project I am doing at  my school. I was Clara Barton.

Our class tech teacher brought a box of  stuff for our home made sound effects. my partners helped me make homemade sound effects. Payton took a bottle and blew in it to make a gust of wind.

I got all my sound effects from GarageBand.

My favorite part about the project was making the homemade sound effects.

Hope you enjoy.
