Bacteria Lab

October 20th, 2010 Written by 13robertk · Science

As a concluding activity for our study of the Scientific Method, students worked through a variety of bacteria investigations. Students were provided a lab template which provided them with a six-step outline of the scientific method for problem solving. Using those steps and sterile nutrient agar plates, students collected bacteria in an attempt to answer their original question. Bacterial growth was documented through qualitative and quantitative observations as well as digital photographs. The following lab report is this student’s attempt at a bacterial investigation.   (Mr. Peter Ogden: Sixth Grade Science Teacher)

October 19th, 2010 Written by 13robertk · English, Uncategorized

* This has not yet been edited.  I hope you enjoy my letter.  This is an example of my first writing as a sixth grader.

Dear Parents,

This year I would like to a few goals. My goals are getting five A’s in every subject, have a good year and have fun. I am looking forward to having a good to all my subjects and especially Outdoor Ed. Finally I would like you to look at all my core classrooms and teachers. They are located in the 6th grade hallway. My core classes are English, Math, Social Studies and Science. Also I would like for you to see my locker. My locker is by my math class.

My goals are getting five A’s in every subject, have a good year and have a ton of fun. I plan on accomplishing these goals by working very hard. I will have to study very hard and have my homework done on time. I know that this will be hard but I want to have a good year. I will also work very hard because you will be able to check my grades online. I hope I don’t mess up on a test and disappoint you. I will avoid arguing with other people so that I do not lose part of a grade.

I’m looking forward to all my subjects especially Outdoor Ed and Social Studies. I can’t wait to do some science experiments. Also I love Social Studies and cannot wait to learn more. All my teachers are nice and helpful. They are making sure we know were every thing is and that were on time for our next class. I know I am going to have a great year.

Finally I would like for you to see my Core classrooms and Core teachers in the 6th grade hallway. My Core teachers are Mr. Ogden, Mr. Cook, Mrs. Bialk and Mrs. Allen. I know that you will like them all. Also, I would like for you to look at my locker. My combination is 1*, *, *I hope you like Open House and Marie Murphy.

All in all, my goals are getting five A’s in every subject, have a good year and have fun. I’m looking forward to all my subjects especially Outdoor Ed and Social Studies. Finally, I want you to see my Core classrooms and Core teachers in the 6th grade hallway and take a look at my locker.

Sincerely,

Robbie

Stop Motion Video by Ethan, Jack and I

May 14th, 2010 Written by 13robertk · Technology

Hi, This is a little Stop Motion project I made in school with Ethan and Jack. They to have blogs that have posts with this Stop Motion project. A Stop Motion is a video were you take a picture of something and then move it slightly so that when you put it into Imovie it will look like that object is moving. In this Stop Motion project Ethan, Jack and I decided to base our project on a race between a bus and two cars.

North Dakota Night Dragons

March 2nd, 2010 Written by 13robertk · Book Review

Title: North Dakota Night Dragon

Genre: Mystery/Horror

Author: Johnathan Rand

When Damon’s quiet life in Bismark, North Dakota is interrupted as he walked home from his friend’s house, he thinks he sees something in the air. At the time he dismisses it for nothing, and thinks his imagination is working over time… until he sees something that makes him freeze in his tracks. A dragon landing, in Bismark, North Dakota! Scared yet curious, he goes to check it out. Nothing was there except a strange black stone. A stone that the Night Dragons will stop at nothing to get has appeared and Damon has it. Yet fortunately for Damon he has his own allies. Thus an adventure that will change his life forever begins. Can Damon defeat the Night Dragons by finding the Sacred Sword of the Emerald World and defeat the Night Dragons leader, the cruel and utterly evil Dantar a two-headed dragon of doom? I would recommend this book to grades 2-7. I love this book because of the suspense and the  unpredictable ending.

The Life and Times of J.L.Kraft

The Life and Times of J. L. Kraft

Biography

Review by Robbie

The Life and Times of J.L. Kraft is of course about J. L. Kraft, a very successful food inventor that invented pasteurized cheese (cheese that is made by boiling cheese and constant stirring it while it is boiling). Pasteurized cheese stays fresh much longer than freshly made non pasteurized cheese which stayed fresh for only up to twenty four hours, while pasteurized cheese can stay fresh for months.  While he was alive, they did a graph that showed most Americans like pasteurized cheese more. In this book you can read from his birth to him owning a multimillion-dollar business.   I personally liked it and would give it an 8 out of 10. I would recommend this book to people 8-all ages.

Encore tech Podcast Project

November 20th, 2009 Written by 13robertk · Technology, Uncategorized

My friend Matthew and I had  to do a little project in Encore Tech and after we were done, we put this on our blog and answered a few questions.  Please listen to the podcast and once you are done please scoll down and I will answer your questions.

Autumn by Robbie and Matt

The first two sound effects are home made and the third one is from Garageband and the final one is from Sound Jay.com

I made my home made sound effects by pretending I was one of those people that say what’s happening in a football game and talking like them and my second homemade sound effect I made by rubbing bubble rap together.

My favorite part was finding and making sound effects.

See you next time on Robbie’s Blog.

Brisinger by Christopher Paolini

Brisinger by Christopher Poalini

Fantasy

Review by Robbie

The Eragon series is a world renowned series and has had the first book turned into a movie. The series in exact order is Eragon, Eldest and finally Brisinger. This book review is about Brisinger. In this book Eragon must first destroy the Raz’ak that killed his uncle who was like a father to him and his cousin Roran. Will he and Saphira ( his dragon) be able to finally defeat The Black King Galbatorix and his servant Murtagh (Eragon’s brother) and their dragons?  In this suspense full book Eragon must face his worst enemy, his family. Can he survive the challenges that present themselves? I would recommend this book to people ages  8 & up. I would give this a rating of 10/10.
