Music Podcast Reflection “The Conga”

In Music class, we created a podcast for the instrument of our liking. We chose one and we had to write a script and make it into a podcast.

My instrument was the Conga. I chose the Conga because to me it feels like the best instrument out there. Nice touch, cool design, and a hollow sound that makes it soothing. When I did the podcast, I learned way more about the Conga then I thought I would. Did you know the conga is a Afro-Cubian drum? Their are also many different types of Congas and different ways to play the Conga. While I was creating the podcast, the teacher helped me put in pictures and helped create a smooth podcast. I was doing a interview but I only had person so I changed the voice module to a different pitch. It was really cool.

What I hope to improve on is the bibliography. I didn’t really size and set the picture always and I didn’t use the correct format. I was being lazy and thats gets you nowhere. But I am most proud of my research. I gathered a lot of things about the Conga and put them into the podcast. It really helped the podcast show more information on the script. To see my podcast go to Marie Murphy—> Allided Arts—->Mrs. Vontrebra and in my personal blog.

Snake River Adventure Center Outdoor Ed

May 17th, 2011 Written by 13ryany · Science

May 2 about to go to Outdoor Ed.

We all packed out bags and went to school at the normal time. Everyone got there and checked whom were they bunking with. The bus was coming late so we all went inside to check meds and relax. When we were getting bored, we went to the community room to watch the movie Finding Nemo. I personally thought the movie was boring because I’ve seen it like 20 times. But after that, we boarded the buses. I rode on bus 5 with Elena, Louis, Christie, George, Alex, Michael, Ilya, Michelle, and Greg. We talked and played truth or dare. It was so fun because some of the dares were really silly or stupid. But after that we just talked until we reached the camp.

May 2 team building activities

When we got to camp, the counselor told us about the activities at camp and how we should treat the camp and all that camp stuff that you usually ignore. After that, we immediately got ready on the tram building activates. The first game was kind of like steal the bacon game. The counselor called out numbers and the numbers he picked for us, we run out to kick a ball in the middle to the opposing side. It was pretty fun even though I stink at soccer. Next, we played a game called The Blob. There was this on person and when they tag someone, they join hands and get bigger and bigger. That was so easy because the people were slow at getting us. After the Blob game, we sent for the best part of the day…FOOD!OE010

May 2 lunch

At the time of lunch, we all got settled in the table we picked. Once we sat at the table, the counselor gave us the instructions about how much food to take and what to drink. Once the instructions were over, they picked the table to go up to the table of food and we were picked last because we were talking. Once we got up the lunch tray, we were so hungry. The lunch for the day was grilled cheese, tomato soup, and baked beans. I loaded up on the beans because I love them. I also figured out they had hot chocolate so I grabbed some. Oh my god it was amazing! 10x better than my moms!! Umm…sorry mom. Any way, I ate all I could and was amazed by the camp food. They usually stink. After lunch was over, we went to more team building activates with our groups.

May 2 more team building activates.

When lunch was over, we all went up to the big field. The big field like the name says, a big field. The bad thing about it was that the camp had this huge hill you had to walk up and it was so bad. But anyways, the school spilt up into groups. The people that I can remember in my group were Vincent, Christie, Elena, Alex, Greg, Jason, AJ, Aiman, Matthew, Maayan, Angela, and Me. First we did a name game were the counselor named Jon that was leading the group tossed a fluffy toy alien thing at one of us. Once he handed us the toy, we had to say our name and throw it to someone else. Once everyone in the whole group was done he gave us 2 aliens. The purpose was to throw the first one to the first person and throw that alien to the person he threw it to and etc. but then he threw the second one in at a random moment to the first person. He wanted to see how as a team we could not drop an alien in the whole passing of it. Once we finished 2, he gave us 3, then 4, and then 5. It took us forever to do the 5 one but we did. After that, we did a game that we all wanted a job interview at the top of a place. But we had to cross the elevator to get to the 81 floor were the interview is taking place. So we had to cross the jump rope, which was an elevator, but it was very old. So to get across, one at a time had to cross. We finished it like the 2 time. Then he told us we needed to get a partner and cross it with partners together. We finished in the 1st time. It was pretty impressive even to me. Then he said to get in a pyramid formation. So we did but he said the trick was we needed a 6th and 7th line. But we didn’t have enough people. So Alex made up a plan. She was basically the brains of the group. She said that we needed 6 people to volunteer and 7 people to do the 7th line. But we needed a person from the 6th group to do the 7th too because we only had 12 people. Oh my god you wouldn’t believe how many tries it took to do it. I would say more than 20. Sometimes we screw up immediately. Some other times we were on the 7th line and the person from the 6th line couldn’t come fast enough to join. But at one try we did it. We started to cheer and hug each other. After this hard task, we went to play a game of Indian numbers. We got 5 sticks and they piled them up in a weird kind of way each time. The purpose was to figure out what number the sticks represented. I had a really hard time trying to figure out what they meant. Some people guessed and got it right. Others made up the secret and it worked because of luck. Some found it out easy! But at the end, they told us the numbers came from the fingers. They put up how many fingers and that was how many the number was. It felt like you were an idiot with that game. After that game, we went back to the big field to join the others. We were playing a relay race game with a balloon. The point of the game was to cross the balloon to the other side of the place with the partner. But the tricky part was you have to keep the balloon in place on the back or on the chest. The games started. My team was leading the way but then we got caught because the balloon kept falling for Matthew. When it was my turn, I had to go across the balloon with Elena then run back with the balloon and roll on my side to the other side. Ha ha… the funny part was I popped the balloon under my stomach and I rolled like 10 feet away from my group to the right. Everyone was laughing then one of my teammates said, “It’s ok. We needed a good laugh, Ryan” So that cheered me up a lot.

May 2 Dinnertime

After all the relays, we went to dinner. The dinner today was spaghetti and meatballs with breadsticks and minestrone soup. I took some spaghetti and meatballs and a breadsticks and got me other cup of delicious hot chocolate. But then I saw that the machine was giving out some water. So I stopped and went back to the table sad. Then one of my friends said that it’s working now so I got the cup of hot chocolate. The people sitting at me table were George, Michael, Greg, Ilya, Antonio, Louis, and Me. The teacher at the table was Mrs. Mazur. The reason I loved the table a lot was because Mrs. Mazur was there. We kept talking and saying random things. She always laughed and we always made fun of Greg and stuff. Also I had a big thing about wasting food so whenever they did, I said it was global warming…haha.

May 2 more relay races

Once we were all packed with food and ready to go, we went to the gym to have relay races with the other groups. Once at the relays we started. The first relay was to get a rubber chicken on the chair across from you and run back with it to hand to the person behind you. Once the person behind you runs, they put the chicken back on and tag the next person and It goes on and on until the end were the last person has the sit down. That relay race we came in second, which wasn’t so bad. After that relay, we did one were you had to balance a eyeball on a plate and go across the gym, around a chair, and back to the person behind to give the plate to and it goes like that. Again, we came in second, which was still ok. The next one I can’t remember but I knew we got 1st on it so we got 5 points. The next game was a three spot relay kind of thing. First you have to crab walk to a line, then turn on your back with legs and arms up screaming “HELP ME” 3 times. Then once that’s down, you stand under a hula-hoop and put it through you body.  After that, you jump rope 3 times and run back to tag the next person in line. Again, we got 1st place, which our team was happy about. The next game was a lifesaver game. You have a donut shaped thing and you start from across the gym. You run to the first person in line and hook them in the lifesaver thing and run with them to the other side. Then the person you got drops you off and gets the next person behind and it goes on and on until the last guy is across. We got in 1st again giving us the winning! Our team was happy!!! We started hugging and cheering. After, they announced the people to go to the night hike. Everybody wanted to go but we needed sweaters and stuff like that in order to go. So like everyone but 5 people didn’t go on the night hike. Once that was done, we went to the dorms.OE108

May 2 going to sleep

We got to our dorms and get dressed and ready to sleep. I couldn’t find my toothbrush so I didn’t brush that day. Since we didn’t have to sleep immediately, we played card games and fooled around with the people in our cabins. We started to creep people out and tackle them. But once it was silent, the people in our cabin took control and were very strict. I forgot to tell you, the people in my cabin was Vincent, Jack, JB, Jagr, Chase, Aiman, Greg, Robbie, Youngjin, Matthew, Noah, and me. I had a hard time falling to sleep because my throat hurt and I had a runny nose. I had liked 5 bathroom breaks to clean up my nose. Then when I was about to fall asleep, Vincent wakes up and climbs out of bed saying, “I remembered!” Everyone in the cabin was a little ticked for Vincent for waking us up, but you can’t get mad at Vincent. It’s like a rule. Anyways, he looking through his luggage and gets his PJ’s out. SERIOUSLY!!!?!?!?!? He wakes us up for this!? Then again, you can’t get mad at Vincent. Finally 10 minutes later, I go asleep.

May 3 morning

I wake up with Greg and Youngjin crowding my space. I get scared and punch them away. They tell me I was snoring the night and it was cool. I didn’t care so I just got out of my PJ’s and put some new clothes on. I then joined a game of cards but Noah said I couldn’t play if I didn’t take a shower. So I took a shower and it was hard! The floor was all wet so my pants got wet. Then the water pressure on the shower was horrible so it was so hard to get the soap and shampoo off. But I shouldn’t argue. After the shower, I played cards and started to chill out. Then we went out of the dorms and waited until breakfast was ready. I saw lots of people crowding around this new game called Carpet Ball. It’s a game were you try to hit the balls from the opponents side into there net. The first one to get the balls in wins. But if the person gets all your balls in, you get one shot to get there balls in. If you do, you win not them. I thought it was cool so I started playing. I found out I was pretty good then I expected. I started to get into it then I realized that it was time for breakfast. To signal us it was time, they ring this gigantic bell. We all file up next to the stairs to the cafeteria then we go in and sit at our table. We hear the daily routine and how much to take and what we are eating. The thing is you have to finish all your water before you get any juice or soda. So like always, we were called last…then came FOOD!

May 3 breakfast

The breakfast for today was eggs, bacon, and waffle sticks. I got a scoop of eggs, a lot of bacon, but avoided the waffle sticks because I don’t like them. Again I got a cup of hot chocolate. I think I’m really addicted! I sat down at the same table and ate food. We talked at the table and made jokes with Mr. Cook and Mrs. Mazur. I love any food time because of that and my table. When we were all stuffed, Mr. Ogden told us about the activates we were going to do today. Then we set off like troopers.

May 3 Entomology

So basically after breakfast, we went up the hill and to the carriage or the some room with a C house. There we saw a giant mini golf course so I thought this I going to be fun because I love mini golf. But then the person in charge of entomology, Donna told us to put them to the side of the room. Once we finished, she told us to get a big table from upstairs and bring them down. Once we set up the tables, she brought out this giant box of insects and weird pictures. That means that entomology is the study of insects. Once we saw them and set it up, Donna said that we were doing a game were we put a picture of insect on our back and the people in our group that can see it tell us yes or no to the question we ask them. I finally figured out mine was a grasshopper. When we finished, Donna brought us back and we looked at the cool insects she had on the table. There was a real hornets nest that she chopped off. She told us that the bees eat some material then they spit it out to make the outer layer of the nest, which I thought was cool. After the looking and stuff, she said we could make our own insect. She gave us orange slices of gummy, toothpicks, cloves, Twizzlers, and some gum things. I made the worst one. I didn’t even know what it was I just wanted to eat it. After the class was down, we ate the candy. I really thought the candy was horrible and the only good thing was the Twizzlers but hey, don’t waste food.

May 3 Orienteering

Once entomology was over, we headed to the big field to find Mr. Ogden waiting for us with a bunch of compasses. We were wondering what orienteering meant when Mr. Ogden said it was use of compasses. He told us about the people that found on the rock that helped the compass to make. Then after that, he told us that you put a degree in and make sure “red Fred is in the shed” which means that the red arrow is in the big arrow. Then you look that way and walk a specific amount of steps. Then we actually did it. We grabbed a compass and put the degrees in and stood there. Mr. Ogden told us to look in the distance and the first time you were supposed to look at his car. Then we did more of the looking in the distance exercises then he told us to grab a penny. He told us to go to a spot that is far away from other people. Then he tells us to put a certain degree and walk an amount. When we did, we got away and closer to be the penny was. At the end, he told us to look were the penny was and see how close we were or if we were standing directly on top of it. The closer we were, the better. If we lost the penny, it was happy to Mr. Ogden because he would get a pack of diet coke. So after a bunch of attempts and lost pennies, he told us about the woods and how people survive in the woods with only the stars, moss, and a compass. Then he gave us a card with directions and degrees to find different letters that will lead us to a different tree. Greg and me partnered up and we set off. We went to the pine start sign and put the degree and took the steps then we got to the letter J. then we went to another letter until we noticed that we didn’t know what to do. So we went to Mr. Ogden to check. He told us we screwed up at the start. So that wasn’t every good to our compass skills when the girls got 2 done! I didn’t really care though. Mr. Ogden told us to hang out until it’s over. So we played cards with Greg and just chilled. Then it was time to leave and we set off for survival.

May 3 survival

When we got to survival, we saw this huge fire. So we came and sat by it warming us up. Then I started to hate it because the smoke and ash was starting to make my eyes and throat hurt. The person who was showing us this was talking about how survival is very important to know in our lives and that you should know how to make fires and make shelters. She explained that body heat is precious and that it should be kept as much as possible. Shelters should be low to the ground. Once she finished, she told us to make our own shelter. She assigned us groups. It was Airman, Christie, Maayan, and me. We couldn’t find a really good tree to use and we just piled wood on a tree until we saw the other groups doing so good. So we asked for help and the teacher found us a nice low triangle thing that will keep us warm. But the bad thing was that we had like 2 minutes and we had no roof. So we got all the long logs we could find and made the roof until the bell rang. The roof was only half so the other half was nothing. The other teams had the best ones and the team shelters were very good. After we got back to the circle where the fire was, it was time for lunch

May 3 Lunchtime

We rushed from the fire and ran to the washrooms to wash our hands. Then when we were done, I started to play Carpet Ball again. I am so addicted to that game like hot chocolate. I beat a lot of people but then the master Michael N and Joe L beat people like a pro. I was in the middle of the game about to win when the bell for lunch rings. We line up outside and listen to the routine and then we go inside to the cafeteria. We go to the original table we always have to sit at and wait to be called. Luckily, we are chosen first this time. Today’s lunch is the best. We have pizza, breadsticks, and soup. I took 2 big slices of pizza, 1 breadsticks, and as always, hot chocolate. I ate it all with hunger because of the activates we did. Then Mr. Ogden told us about what group was going were and what activates was it. Then he told us to dump everything in the bowl and head out for the next thing.OE032

May 3 New Games

We headed up to the field after we were down with lunch. We saw Mr. Henley up there. Then he told us to sit in a circle and listen. He said we were going to be doing something like football but different. He said the team kicks the ball to the opponents and they try to get it to our side. But the guy with the ball can’t move. So we set out. We kicked the ball to the other side and the team tried to get it over but it dropped. Then the team was almost there when Aiman intercepted the ball. He was a pro. He didn’t let anyone score on my team! It was so cool. Then the final score was 1-3. Then we started to play capture the flag. We got on the same team. No one on any team tried to grab the flag but we guarded it hard. Then finally we had almost the whole team in the jail. So I decided to try to grab the flag but I ended up tagged. It was me, Greg, Mr. Thurston, and Mr. Henley in the jail. AJ was guarded the jail hard so me and Greg were making AJ distracted so at one moment, Alex ran to the flag and grabbed it and won us the game! We all cheered and huddled around Alex. But the game was over. We still had one more game to do. So we decided to play kickball. So the game started really bad with the other team scoring like 5 points until they got out. Then when it was our turn, we got 3 outs start and didn’t get any points. I didn’t care because I’m horrible at kickball and I knew that I might not win. So then we started to speed up. We got a couple of easy outs and then we came back. When it was my turn to hit, I gave it to Greg because I was scared I would cost the out for the team. So then we went to the outfield. And this kept going on and on until finally we lost by a lot. I’m pretty sure we only made 2/3 points. Anyways, then we went to one of my favorite ones, Archery.

May 2 Archery

Archery was actually pretty close so we didn’t have to walk to the place much. When we got there, the person in charge Andrew told us about archery and how modern days the people used to use sharpened rocks and threw them at animals or run up to them and stabbed. But then he said they needed more modern technology so they made the bow and arrow. He said this way they could make a kill easy. After he talked about the times, he told some of us to come and shoot. I didn’t go first so I stayed back and watched the people shoot. I took archery back a long time ago when I was 7 or 8 for like a day and I remember what to do. So I went up and put the arrow in and shot and it hit the deer poster in the butt. Then I reloaded and shot again and it hit the butt again. So I thought I was pretty good at this thing so I shot again but I mislead the arrow and jerked it and my arrow flew downward. Then I sat down and waited to go again. But this time Andrew set up balloons and told people who ever hit gets 5 points. Well I waited to go and saw that nobody hit the balloon so I went up and loaded the first arrow and shot. It hit the balloon and it flew but didn’t pop. I didn’t really care. The other arrows I missed then I took my seat. After a bunch of turns, no one still hit the balloon so I tried again. My arrows missed but I had one more. So I loaded it, and strung it back, there was complete silence so I could concentrate. Sniper mode…that’s what it was. I held my breath…and let go. “BOOM” that’s the sound the balloon made. I hit it in the middle. Immediately the whole crowd of people were cheering and hugging me and I felt like the beast. When i popped the balloon it was like nothing no one else did. After the hugging and celebrating, it was time for the final one before dinner…Nature. OE134

May 3 Nature

I would take this nature class as a relax time. So then the person in charge told us that in nature, sometimes you don’t have some senses. And she talked about the five senses. Then she said that we were going to do a test to see how good your touch sense is. So we got a partner and they show you around and help you maneuver through things like trees and steps. Sometimes by partner Greg was being funny and knocked me in trees and stuff like that. Then he made me hug a tree and I found the same exact tree. Later, she talked about how the animals in the wild don’t have opposable thumbs so the can’t pick up a glass of lemonade. So the activity was to tape our hands together and get all the candy that was there. So we tried so hard and it was impossible considering you had to scoop it with the palm of our hands. Then we finished nature and it was time for dinner.

May 3 Dinnertime

We all ran to the washrooms and washed our hands. Then me and a bunch of kids started to play Carpet ball again. I really got into the game and I was beast at it. I even beat Joe once or twice. After a couple of games, I hear the ring from the bell. So we line up under the stairs and hear the routine again. Then we went inside and sat at the same table. We were called up and ate dinner. For dinner we had chicken strips, mixed greens, milk, hot chocolate. I took chicken strips, mixed greens, and 2 cups of hot chocolate. I was very hungry. Once we finished the food, we went out to the gym.

May 3 at the gym

Once we finished, we headed to the gym. I was full of food and didn’t want to do anything. Then Donna showed us the worst game in the world. We were astronauts observing space and we had to put on our goggles. But when she said something, we had to immediately run to a hoola-hoop and if we didn’t we died. So I died on purpose because I felt the game was boring. So after that, we started a game of knockout. I started to get in the game and ended the last 2 every time. Then Mr. Kolcz joined and the game boiled. Chase and a few people joined in. I started to sweat and I felt good for working out. Then I got some water and kept going. I started to keep going and going. Then it was time to go. The game was at the best. So we piled out and went back to our dorms…for the last night, but the best night.

May 3 at the dorms

We all got back to the dorms and we were all tired but that doesn’t stop a bunch of boys. We all got in our PJ’s and brushed our teeth. But we weren’t going to go to sleep. Vincent, Greg, Jagr, Aiman, Matthew, Noah, and me stayed up so long until we started to lose some people. So this is how the night went: first we took Jagrs flashlight and started out making hand puppets. It was hilarious. Then we all crowded around the bottom of the floor and we started to tell about life and stories. Then Vincent starts the party. We started to mess around with him. We all started to tackle each other and Vincent was screaming so loud. Then we simmered down and started back up. The night went like that until Matthew and Noah crashed. So it was Greg, Jagr, Vincent, Aiman, and Me. After they crashed, we started talking about people and what we are going to do and about 2012 and to see if they believe. I actually loved that night. Then Greg crashed and there were 4. Then Aiman crashed. So Jagr, Vincent, and Me were left until we gave up at 4 and decided there was nothing better to do. That night could not be replaced.

May 4 morning

In the morning, I saw Matthew and Noah packing for tomorrow departure. I was sad to leave but happy to see my family. So I started too. I was nearly done but I couldn’t fit the sleeping bag or pillow in the bag. So I ended up tying the string to it then carrying it. Soon we got check by Mr. Henley and he said that our award was the messiest room, which I really wasn’t surprised about because the big Rice Krispie from 2 nights ago was on the floor still. Then we headed out for Carpet Ball and breakfast. We started to get into the game because this was the last time we were here so we made it the best. My skills have improved so much throughout the time. I was sad to leave when the bell rang. We lined up and he said the routine and we went inside for some FOOD!

May 4 breakfast

We sat at the table again and waited to be called. Then they finally called us and I was starving! Staying up so late then sleeping 3 hours is horrible! Anyways, the breakfast for today was eggs, sausage, waffle sticks, and hot chocolate as usual. I grabbed as much as possible and ate quickly. The breakfast was the last and it was pretty good anyways. After we heard what we were going to do, we headed out for the high ropes and the climbing walls

May 4 High Ropes

We walked all the way to the high ropes and it was far. We started by the people telling us how to use the high ropes and the proper use of them. Then she said how we were going to climb it and what we should when drop. Then we started to hang up and do it. I didn’t do the high ropes because I had a headache and it was killing me. It went away about 20 minutes later but it killed. Then I went to the giant ladder. It was a ladder that spaces the height of each wood log thing every time you get closer to the top. Greg and me wanted to try it so we fastened up and went. At first I couldn’t up so good. Then I got Greg gave me a boost and we came up. Then it went pretty smooth like that until I started to dance and waste time. It was funny because you hear Greg screaming at you for wasting time. But I think we did pretty good because we got one away from the top. Then we went to the climbing wall. I chose to climb this type rope and wood ladder thing. I climbed the rope and climbed the ladder with a little bit of hardness. When I got to the top, I was little worried about zip lining down. But I took over my fear and grabbed on and went. I figured out that I loved it and wanted to do it again but we had no time. Then it was lunchtime and we walked to the cafeteria. The last meal…

May 4 Lunch

Lunch was the same as ever. Drink all the water first then get milk or hot chocolate. Then I went up to get lunch. Lunch today was tacos, and tamales with peach cobbler!! My favorite. I took 2 tacos and tamales. Then I came back and started eating the tamale. I realized it was hard to eat then I asked Greg how to eat it. He said you don’t eat the skin, which makes sense. So then I went on eating and took a lot of peach cobbler with whipped cream. Then after lunch was done, we all boarded the bus to head to Marie Murphy.

May 4 Bus ride back to Marie Murphy

The bus ride had the same bus and people as the coming of Outdoor Ed. We talked and played truth or dare again. We just messed around with each other and asked them what they did the nights and how they enjoyed it. I think that Outdoor Ed was really fun and that everyone should experience it.

Ratio, Rates, and Proportion Math Project

March 4th, 2011 Written by 13ryany · Math

In this unit of math, we finished up the rates and ratio proportion math project. This was one very exciting and full of enjoyment. I really like it because some of the option I chose was something that you might do in the real world like is buying bigger better? I chose this because you might do this in real life and it was a cool experience to go to Dominick’s and look at things. This is the post I did:

Lucerne Milk (quart)

$1.89

32 oz

=

$0.05

1 oz

Lucerne Milk (gallon)

$3.99

128 oz

=

$0.03

1 oz

Better Buy

I also did a poem called “100 feet tall” which was a poem that expresses how you would like it if you were 100 feet tall. I did also some real measurements and found out what it would be really to what things I did. Here is a little part of it…

If I were 100 feet tall, an airplane would be a car

The moon would be my mansion

If I were 100 feet tall, my house would be a dollhouse.

The people would be preschoolers

If I were 100 feet tall, the Milky Way would be my candy bar.

If I were 100 feet tall, my bed would be the big toe.

If I were 100 feet tall, my computer screen 150 inches

If I were 100 feet tall, my glass of water would be 66.7 inches tall.

If I were 100 feet tall, my cooking pot would be 84.673 feet wide

If I were 100 feet tall, my boat would be a surfboard.

If I were 100 feet tall, I would be sleeping on a cloud

My favorite part of the project was the job interview because I really liked learning a little bit more of what my dad does. He told me about golden proportions and he is a dentist. An interesting part was all the math I did and dividing the buying bigger better so it didn’t show a whole number and I had to have common sense to round the answer.

Math Histogram

Screen shot 2010-10-15 at 4.26.01 PM

This is a graph I did on the number of windows people have in their house. I found out that first this graph is J-shaped graph which is a graph that goes highest to lowest. I also found out that most people have 10-19 windows in their house. The least amount of people have 30-39 windows in the house. I think people have 10-19 windows in their house because it is not necessary to have a lot of windows in a house. So, most people have the least amount of windows. The most windows in my house were 39. Comparing to the graph, I’m the only one with that many windows in my house. I’m more at the end of the graph than the start. Two people have 40-49 windows in their house. Eight people have 10-19 windows in their house.

Spice Inhibitor Lab

October 19th, 2010 Written by 13ryany · Science

As a concluding activity for our study of the Scientific Method, students worked through a variety of bacteria investigations. Students were provided a lab template which provided them with a six-step outline of the scientific method for problem solving. Using those steps and sterile nutrient agar plates, students collected bacteria in an attempt to answer their original question. Bacterial growth was documented through qualitative and quantitative observations as well as digital photographs. The following lab report is this student’s attempt at a bacterial investigation.   (Mr. Peter Ogden: Sixth Grade Science Teacher)

Holes

May 20th, 2010 Written by 13ryany · Book Review

Holes
By: Louis Sachar
Blurb by: Ryan Y.
Holes can mean various things…this hole means trouble. Stanley Yelnats accused of stealing Clyde Livingston’s shoes is sent to Camp Green Lake. The only thing that he notices is where’s the lake? Trying to piece his life together by digging holes, he meets along some friends that can be pretty unpredictable. The warden runs the camp saying digging holes helps build character, but Stanley knows they’re digging for something…but what? Stanley is always blaming his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather for things that are happening to him that are bad, but he soon learned different. I really liked this book because of the suspense and cliff hangers leaving it off, it gives unexpected turns to lead Stanley in great directions of good or bad. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure, and action. It has more of a suspense hanging to it that makes you want to read more. I liked the character Zero because he gives you one side then another depending on the strength of relationship. He’s really a guy you have to crack open to find the mystery in him. You can’t just assume he’s dumb when you meet him. You have to know him first. The main character Stanley changed alot in this book. He didn’t have hope to dig holes and didn’t have energy. As he moved on, he learns what importance it is to never give up and keep trying. To my full honesty, i would say 5 stars. To the book… and Louis Sachar.

Stop Motion Movie: Recycle Dudes!

May 10th, 2010 Written by 13ryany · Technology

Recycle Dudes! was the movie we made using paper, a trash bin, and a recycle bin. We had to keep the paper flat and write on it one by one. Then, we had to crumple the paper slowly and take pictures while we moved it into the trash can. We did this over again until we did it three times. Next, showed how recycling is better then trash for paper. Inch by inch, we moved it towards the bin as one. The best part was when we used tape to make it stick on the recycling bin like a spider! We moved it all up to the bin using tape and ended it off.
