Dear diary,
Today when I woke up, my mom had started reading the newspaper, and all of a sudden her eyes got huge and started to laugh from her happiness, and then she told me that Lincoln won the election of 1860! But, she also read that South Carolina had seceded from America. They did this because they were not happy with Lincoln in charge of the nation because they were worried that he would abolish slavery. We want that to happen, but the northerners say “ No way Jose” and they ran away. I told my parents all about Lincoln, so they voted for him. Now, they are very happy about, alike me. But since a lot of states have seceded from their nation, that us northerners think that this is going to start the war between states. I think that there should be no war, but I don’t think that that will happen through all that there has been going on. I think that after the war that our nation will be in pieces. And that is not what I want to happen.

As a slave,I am also afraid of war, but also want my freedom.
Do you think that we will have war? Could the slaves possibly be free? Or will we end up the same as always with a split in the country over slavery?

I think that there is going to be a war because a lot of people have been fighting over slavery already, so I think that there is going to be a big war. I also think that slavery will be a restricted law, and all slaves will be free because if we win the war, there will be no more slavery, from what I have heard. And, I think that there will be no more such thing as the nation being split up dividing slavery into two parts, it will, I hope be all no slaver, and we can live our lives fair and square.
