After reading ”If the World Were a Village” while studying percentages in math class, students were surprised to learn how many people in the world are hungry and were motivated to do something to help. They brainstormed various ideas and organizations and decided to conduct a Walk-a-thon for Heifer International. The walk-a-thon took place on Wednesday, May 31, and students walked around the school track for 1 hour 20 minutes during their foreign language and physical education periods. Several students completed 25 laps – over 6 miles! Altogether students raised nearly $4000, which will be used by Heifer to purchase chickens, goats, and other farm animals for people in need throughout the world.
