In Speech and Theatre class, students are given both classroom instruction and performance application projects in many of the dramatic performing arts. Curricular themes include speech arts, reading and interpreting dramatic literature, and acting. Additional units vary by grade.
OBJECTIVES:
1. To understand the elements and processes involved in creation of the various art forms.
2. To create, rehearse, evaluate, and perform improvised and scripted dramatic performances.
3. To utilize and broaden critical reading, writing, listening, speaking, and thinking skills.
4. To develop an understanding of the influence of the dramatic arts on society and vice versa.
5. To develop an appreciation for the efforts of all students in the class.
EXPECTATIONS:
1. Come to class on time, prepared with all assignments, notebook paper, folder, pencil/pen, assignment notebook and charged laptop.
2. Appropriately and respectfully participate in class discussions and exercises.
3. If class is missed for any reason, it is the student's responsibility to check with Ms. Janssen for missed assignments and notes.
4. At all times, behavior must be respectful to the teacher and classmates and promote a safe class environment.
5. Always give your best effort!
MEASURABLE PROFICIENCIES:
1. Understand the elements of speech and theatre and apply them to the individual and group creation of work
2. Demonstrate and/or perform skills studied in class
3. Think critically about dramatic scripts and performances through discussion and writing
4. Demonstrate self-motivation to improve upon previous knowledge and skills
5. Be an actively respectful audience member to fellow students, teacher, and to all performers
6. Constructively critique oneself and fellow students
