Our Changing Earth

Third grade’s Earth Science unit, Our Changing Earth, focuses on geology. Specifically, students study the four main layers of the Earth, the composition of rocks, and the rock cycle.

Ecosystems

Ecosystems is a Life Science unit. This unit focuses on the ways in which organisms and environments impact each other. Students examine how living organisms seek a balance as they compete for limited resources and how they adapt to changes in the environment.

Plants

Our last unit of study, also a Life Science unit, focuses on the life cycle of plants. In this unit, students explore the structure and properties of various types of seeds and how they travel, germinate, and reproduce. Students also identify the parts of plants and their role in the life cycle.  The unit ends with students testing their own hypotheses using the scientific method.
