Eighth Grade Math The eighth grade math curriculum includes five programs: Foundations in Algebra 1 and 2, Algebra (two levels), and the New Trier Township Math Program. Students are carefully screened and evaluated in order to insure that their placements are accurately made.

Foundations in Algebra 2:

Students begin the year with a review of basic skills. The rest of the year focuses on various math topics including integers, solving equations and inequalities, functions and graphing, proportion and percent, statistics and probability, polynomials, and geometry. The text used is Pre-Algebra, an Integrated transition to Algebra and Geometry, published by Glencoe/McGraw-Hill.

Foundations in Algebra 1:

Students are exposed to a variety of topics in math including the study of operations with signed numbers, matrix operations, geometric properties, number theory, and volume. The text used is Algebra I, Concepts and Skills, published by McDougal, Littell.

Algebra I, Levels 3 & 4:

Students that have demonstrated an above average understanding in math are enrolled in this course. The students study equations and inequalities, functions, systems, polynomials, quadratics, rational equations and trigonometry. Students that have successfully completed this course will take geometry their freshman year in high school.  The text used is Algebra 1 published by McDougal, Littell.

New Trier Township Math Program:

Students that have successfully completed Algebra as seventh graders in this program take Geometry as eighth graders. Classes are held at New Trier High School.
