This event is sponsored by the PTC. All children at Marie Murphy will receive their pledge sheets during physical education on Monday, April 18th. Donald Cornelius will explain the details of the fundraiser to the kids. The walk will be held during the physical education and foreign language blocks.
All proceeds will be used to purchase a sound system, projector, and screen in the south gym. Also, indoor recess kits to keep kids active when they have to be indoors due to bad weather.

Parent-teacher conferences for 6th and 7th grade families will be held on Wednesday, March 16, and Thursday, March 17, 2016, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on both days. Students will have an early dismissal on these days (11:00a.m.).
The sign up window for the conferences is 9:00 a.m. on Monday, February 29 to 12:00 noon on Monday, March 14, 2016.

Parents, you will soon need to go online to sign up for the all important 20 minute parentteacher-student advisory conference.
The signup window for these conferences is 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 11, to 12:00 noon on Friday, January 29, 2016.

On May 16th, the Marie Murphy Science Olympiad team earned an impressive 6th place ranking at the National Science Olympiad Tournament hosted by the University of Nebraska. The students competed against 59 other teams representing 49 of the 50 states.
This year’s team included Sophia A, Jack A, Maddy A, Pearce B, Celeste C, Brian C, Joey G, Connor H, Roland K, Youngwon K, Yetong L, Allison L, Marion M, Edward S & Tyler S.
Individual medalists included:
2nd place – Allison L & Yetong L – Bio-Process
Connor H & Youngwon K – Elastic Launch Glider
4th Place – Youngwon K & Marion M – Entomology

Marie Murphy students, as well as students across the state, are a little less than a month away from begin the inaugural PARCC tests. PARCC is a nationally standardized test that measures the students and the curricula in against the Common Core State Standards in mathematics and English Language Arts.

As MAP testing came to a completion yesterday, all Marie Murphy students had the opportunity to be a part of “Hour of Code” activities. Hour of Code is a global initiative designed to be a one-hour introduction to computer science. The goal is to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. Marie Murphy Technology Integration Specialist Ms. Lane provided the instructions, expertise and assistance for students 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students working individually and collaboratively on a variety of coding activities. Students had the opportunity to engage in activities from the official Hour of Code site, Made With Code by Google, Kahn Academy Hour of Code, and Scratch. Students who want to continue to learn about coding can work with Ms. Lane this Friday at lunch or can speak to Mr. Gravagna about Get Techy Club.
