During weight training days free weights and weight machines will be used to develop muscle strength and endurance. Students may choose from the following activities on aerobic days: treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bicycles, rebounders, rowing machine, stepper machine, running, step aerobics and assorted aerobic workout videos.</p>
<p>A requirement of this unit is completing a 20-minute run. In addition to this a worksheet and quiz will be given on calculating target heart rate range. At the end of the unit a written test will be given to assess what has been learned.</p>
<p>Other areas of concentration include:</p>

In the middle of the month a reading assignment on How Much Physical Activity is Enough will be be assigned and then followed up with a test. At the end of the unit a written test will be given to assess what has been learned throughout the unit.</p>

The unit grade will be based on tumbling skills (30%), rope climbing (15%), ascending and descending a wood ladder (15%), dress/tardy/conduct (20%) and effort (20%).</p>

Skill-related fitness helps individuals improve their performance in sports. These components encompass balance, co-ordination, speed, agility, power and reaction time. The following activities will be used to further develop skill-related fitness:</p>

Hula Hoops<br />
Juggling<br />

<p>Assessment will occur on a daily basis. Each student will have a testing card to check-off what he or she accomplished. Check-offs must be earned from a minimum of four of the activities listed above. The unit grade will be based on skill (60%), dress/tardy/conduct (20%), and effort (20%).</p>
