Interscholastic Program

Vikings

Interscholastic sports at Marie Murphy is a vehicle for students with exceptional ability to use and further develop their skills in a competitive setting against other schools. Members of our teams are expected to make a total commitment to practices and games. They must also remain in good standing in their classes. In most cases tryouts are held to determine squads for each sport. Coaches notify students prior to tryouts regarding dates and any other related information. Since interscholastic sports differs from intramural sports in that it is a competitive program, there is no guarantee of equal playing time for team members.

Any child interested in participating in an interscholastic sport must have an athletic permit and an insurance card on file in the nurse’s office before he/she will be allowed to participate in a game.

At Marie Murphy we have high expectations of our athletes. In order to continue playing on a team our athletes will:

  • demonstrate good work habits in the classroom
  • exhibit appropriate behavior at all times
  • treat everyone with respect – coaches, officials, teachers, classmates, opponents
  • be responsible
  • be trustworthy
  • be a role model
  • demonstrate good sportsmanship
  • exhibit a positive attitude toward work; and 9) be committed to excellence

Interscholastic sports offered for the 2008-09 school year include:

  • basketball (girls and boys)
  • soccer (coed)
  • volleyball (girls and boys)

Students receive recognition for their accomplishments in our interscholastic program through the school daily bulletin and the distribution of awards. Each season culminates with a party that it s enjoyed by players and coaches as well.
