Senior Strings

Senior StringsThis advanced ensemble refines basic skills and emphasizes advanced techniques of shifting, vibrato and advanced bow strokes. Almost all students study privately and some perform with other area orchestras. There are usually approximately 80 members. The Senior Strings rehearse on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 7:10 to 7:50 at Marie Murphy School.

Students also receive a small group lesson (sectional) from the orchestra director. These sectionals are given on a rotating schedule: perhaps a student misses his 2nd period class this week to have an orchestra sectional. Next week the sectional will be third period and the following week fourth period...this way the student misses the same class only once every 6 weeks. Some of the advanced members of the Senior Strings study chamber music during their sectional period. Members of the Senior Strings have the option to perform in the Strolling Strings.
