PTC-Sponsored Avoca Fun Fair a Success

In addition to the Avoca Fun Fair being an annual fundraiser sponsored by the Avoca Parents’ and Teachers’ Council (PTC), the popular event also provides an opportunity to bring the local community together.  This year’s Avoca Fun Fair was held on Sunday afternoon, February 27, at Avoca West Elementary School in Glenview.  A total of 117 volunteers, consisting of parents, administrators, teachers and school board members, sold over 6,000 tickets for games, food and raffles to an estimated 300 students.  The event raised $2,000 after expenses, and the PTC plans to use these funds to present a gift to both the Avoca Community Preschool and Marie Murphy School in June.

PTC-Sponsored Avoca West Book Fair Scheduled

The annual Book Fair fund-raising event is scheduled to take place November 29 through December 3 at the Avoca West Elementary School library, 235 Beech Drive, Glenview.  The hours of the Book Fair are as follows:  November 29, 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.; November 30 – December 2, 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 -8:00 p.m.; December 3, 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.  The Book Fair gives parents, students, and staff the opportunity to purchase great books and encourage literacy.  The public is also invited to shop for books from the major publishers, as well as many smaller, unique publishers, in addition to purchasing Gift Certificates redeemable at the book fair.  The school librarians and parent volunteers will assist students in filling out a Wish List on their Preview Day, November 29.  Children will bring their lists home to their parents, who decide which books they want their child to buy on purchase days.  The Book Fair is sponsored by the Avoca Parents’ and Teachers’ Council (PTC) and is co-chaired by Heather Hester and Susan Geidner.
