Avoca West Art Students create a “Mosaic Mural”

January 22nd, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Avoca West art students had the opportunity to work with artist and muralist Mirtes Zwierzynski. The Avoca PTC funded this artist in residence project. Mirtes Zwierzynski’s works of art can be seen in North and South America, and in Europe. She has been actively involved with the Chicago Public Art Group since 1982 and also often collaborates with other arts organizations such as Urban Gateways and Gallery 37 in order to develop mural projects with schools and other community institutions. Avoca West art teacher Nicki Scozia and her first through fifth grade art students collaborated with Mirtes and created a 19 X 8 foot mosaic mural for the front entranceway of Avoca West School. Art in Action parent volunteers Patrice Bazianos, Donna Fulks, JoEllen Kerwin, and Rossella Tinto, also participated in the creation of the mural. Rocky Rowe, one of our Avoca West parents who is affiliated with Greenview Remodeling & Cabinetry, LLC donated the installation of the mural.
