In January and February, the Wilmette League of Women Voters sponsors the League of Student and Government Leaders program, generally known around Marie Murphy as “Student Government.” Seven 8th grade students will be participating from Marie Murphy this year. These students will be mentored by current Avoca 37 School Board Members and Administrators, eventually taking their roles in a mock school board meeting broadcast on local television. Over the course of the program, students will learn about the roles of local government bodies and their board members, intergovernmental agreements, parliamentary procedure, and issues currently being addressed by the Avoca 37 School Board.
The calendar of events for Student Government is available here: SG Avoca Schedule (rev 1:7:2013)
