Internet Safety Resources for Kids

Tips:

  • Discuss the Internet with an adult you trust. Talk about the reality of the Internet including the positive and negative aspects so that you can be prepared.
  • Talk about things that make you feel uncomfortable. If your browsing the Internet and come across something odd, offensive or weird to you, tell an adult that you know and trust.
  • Think twice about doing things online that might hurt someone or get you in trouble. Being online isn’t always as anonymous as you think, and what you post online is often more permanent than you think.
  • Read the fine print before you sign up for websites that force you to create a profile. Make sure you are aware that by agreeing, you might be allowing that website to own copies all of your information, photos, videos and status updates.
  • Don’t share your personal information such as your address, phone number, school, family members names and even pets online.
