Reading Intervention

Avoca West Reading Intervention Services

Reading Intervention groups are flexible throughout the year. These groups are designed for students who will benefit from additional reading support.

District assessments are used to determine students who are in need of this support. These include but are not limited to the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System, AIMSweb oral reading fluency, and Heggerty phonemic awareness.  After reviewing all of the assessment results, a team will identify students who qualify for additional reading support. Students meet in the reading room with the reading specialist. They do not meet during classroom reading, writing and math times; or during physical education classes. Students are progress monitored approximately every eight weeks to determine growth or needs; and to review entering or exiting criteria.
