District Information, Event Details, and Volunteer Opportunities

Avoca Diverse Learners Zoom
Please join Avoca Diverse Learners on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at 7:45 p.m. for a Zoom meeting with Kristen Moore, Avoca’s Director of Pupil Services. Bring your questions for Kristen.

A Zoom link will be automatically sent to parents on the ADL mailing list. If you would like to join the list or simply attend this meeting, please contact parent leaders, Louise Dechovitz, [email protected], or Helen Lucaitis, 312-550-2077 by text, for the link. Meetings usually last an hour. To learn more about ADL, visit here.

Welcome Buddy Program
The PTC is still in search of 2-4 veteran families to pair with our new families as a Welcome Buddy. Please reach out to Melanie Morrow at [email protected]. There is a minimal time commitment. Volunteer families are asked to be available by phone or email to be a resource/friendly connection for new families.

8th Grade Fundraiser
Take a night off from cooking and support the Marie Murphy 8th Grade Committee by ordering from Lou Malnati's-Wilmette on Wednesday, October 27 (the first night of conferences)! Lou's will donate 20 percent of all sales that mention the MM 8th Grade Committee, so be sure to either say you're ordering for the Marie Murphy fundraiser - or use the code in the attached flier for online/app orders. Thanks for your support!

Comunita Choral Ensemble
It is not too late for 1st-5th graders to sign up for the Monday choral ensemble, Comunita, which started this week.  It is a wonderful way for students to prepare their bodies, minds, and voices for a week of academic and social-emotional learning. Here is the information and permission slip. Please reach out to Elizabeth Weismehl at [email protected] for more information.

Early Childhood Developmental Screening
This Thursday, October 28, 2021, will be the Fall scheduled Early Childhood Developmental screening date. The location for the screening is Marie Murphy School, 2921 Illinois Road, Wilmette, Illinois. Please call the Student Services Office at 847-728-4142 to make an appointment. Currently, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we ask that only one parent attend the screening with their child. Masks are required to enter the building and must be kept on during the screening.

Who: District residents ages 2 ½ to 5 who may have delays in their development
What: Screenings cover language development, fine and gross motor skills, social and emotional behavior, and early learning.
Duration: Approximately 1 hour

AVOCA FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM
NEW! FREE BREAKFAST PROGRAM
Beginning November 1, 2021, the District will provide free breakfasts for pick-up on Mondays. The pick-up time is from 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at the front entrance of Marie Murphy School located at 2921 Illinois Road, Wilmette, IL 60091. There is no registration or signup required for meal pickups. Breakfast meals will be provided for students currently enrolled in pre-school through 8th grade at Avoca School District 37.

Unlike the program from last year, it is not available for other children in the home who do not attend Avoca or other members of the community. It is also only for days when school is in session. So, for example, pick-up for November 1 will contain 5 breakfast meals for the week. However, for the week of November 22, there will not be any pick-up as there are no school days that week.

If you have any questions about the meals, please contact Sarai Moreno at [email protected]
