Planned Vaccination Clinic for Students Ages 5-11
Please see the attached letter issued jointly by all of the New Trier Township elementary school superintendents regarding a proposed vaccination clinic for students ages 5-11 to be held in November and December. This letter is preliminary. Actual registration details will be shared on November 8, no earlier than 6:00 p.m. All medical questions should be directed to your pediatrician. Avoca Diverse Learners Zoom
Please join Avoca Diverse Learners tonight at 7:45 p.m. for a Zoom meeting with Kristen Moore, Avoca’s Director of Student Services. Bring your questions for Kristen. A Zoom link will be automatically sent to parents on the ADL mailing list. If you would like to join the list or simply attend this meeting, please contact parent leaders Louise Dechovitz, [email protected], or Helen Lucaitis, 312-550-2077 by text, for the link. Meetings usually last an hour. To learn more about ADL, visit here.

Town Hall Meeting 2: Facilities, Learning Spaces, and District Finances
Tell your neighbors and come out on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, for an informative overview of the state of District Facilities, Learning Spaces, and Finances. Additionally, you can complete a customized survey and participate in small focus groups. The feedback generated from the survey and focus groups directly informs the Strategic Planning Committee's work in developing a District Needs Assessment and ultimately, a new strategic plan for Avoca. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Marie Murphy Gym. Masking and Social Distancing protocols will be in place. Questions? Email [email protected].

CommunIDEE - Diwali
Happy Diwali! CommunIDEE wants to recognize the holiday, which falls on November 4, 2021, and usually lasts five days. Diwali is a festival of lights and one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists. It is the celebration of the triumph of Good over Evil. If anyone is interested in celebrating, there will be a celebration at the Community Playfields on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, from 7-8 p.m.

8th Grade Committee - November Meeting
The 8th Grade Graduation Committee will be meeting Wednesday night, November 10, 2021. Please contact Betsy Harootyan at [email protected] if you want to get involved with the committee or attend the meeting.

CommunIDEE - Native American Heritage Month
This November, we recognize and learn from Native American Heritage Month. The HEROS Action-based Book Club (ABC) meeting will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021, from 7-8:30 p.m. We will discuss There There by Tommy Orange, a Cheyenne and Arapaho author. For additional details, please check ABC's website here. We welcome you to join our discussion. Even if you do not have time to read the whole book, please read at least Chapter 3 on the Native American occupation of Alcatraz, and join our conversation! Here is the Registration link. Hope to see you there!

If you have any holidays or celebrations you want to be posted, or if you are curious about CommuIDEE events, please email Ami Das at [email protected]

8th Grade Concessions - Donate those Extra Halloween Treats
If you actually have extra Halloween candy after the roving bands of young teens and the contents of your basket/bowl are looking at you like they are going to leap up and take up permanent residence "somewhere," feel free to donate it to 8th Grade Concessions at Marie Murphy. We will put it to good use. (debatable, I know) Just drop off in the front office, "for Concessions." Leslie Casey will do the rest.
Please hide the Tootsie Rolls. Please. Uh, you might not want to trust your kids with this drop-off.

*Proceeds from the 8th Grade Concessions benefit the 8th Grade Graduation (including the ceremony, celebration, service event, and class gift)*
