You may have heard that a concerned parent of a Wilmette District 39 junior high student contacted the Wilmette Police Department after discovering loaded firearms in their child’s bedroom. You may have also heard that out of an abundance of caution a complete search of Wilmette Junior High School was conducted, and no concerns were identified.

Like our neighbors at Wilmette School District 39, Avoca School District 37’s top priority is student safety. In this case, the actions of the child’s parent may have prevented a potential incident. Though we work to be vigilant at all times, it is when we read news like this that we are reminded to stay alert and be proactive. Remember, if you see something, say something!
