Teacher Appreciation Week Begins Monday
We are gearing up for Teacher Appreciation Week 2021 which will begin Monday, May 3rd. Please keep an eye out for emails from your Room Parents for details about your requested classroom participation. Additionally, let's surprise our staff with homemade lawn signs containing fun messages to express our gratitude.
If you would like a repurposed election sign, please contact Maya ([email protected]). Place completed signs along AW grounds anytime this weekend. Don't have time to make a sign? How about a quick drive by to AW to write a chalk message near the entrance of the school? Let's show our teachers how appreciated they are!

2021 Innovation Grants Winners
Congratulations to the two winning Innovation Grants for Spring 2021!:
Janis Michael, Amy Anshell, Emily Bierbower, & Jenna Freeman - Giant Map of Illinois, Fourth Grade. Grade 4 is transitioning to a new Social Studies curriculum which includes Illinois history and geography. National Geographic’s giant state map is a vinyl map that could be used in the gym, on the blacktop, or in a clear-out classroom for students to explore. The ability to move around the map and on the map improved retention and comprehension over the current, smaller maps. The map project will help the team meet applicable standards for Grade 4 Social Studies. The number of students that will utilize it in 2021-2022 includes the 80-90 students in Grade 4, with potential interest from the 3rd and 5th grade teams as well.
Angie Piechowiak - Active Workstation- Treadmill Desk. As a Learning Behavior Specialist Resource Teacher, Ms. Piechowiak works with 7th and 8th grade students who display kinesthetic learning preferences and benefit from movement in the classroom. Students requested the treadmills, excited by the possibility of improving the equipment in the room. The treadmill desk will supplement other current, active workstations, including a stand-up desk and cycling desks.

RECAP: Silent Auction 2021
The recent online auction brought in $5,401 - a major success especially amid COVID-19. 100% of the funds raised will be used to purchase educational supplies, school equipment, and support school events in our District. This was made possible thanks to local businesses and community members that have generously donated to the silent auction, and those who bid on those items. Also, a special thanks to this year's Silent Auction committee: Kristen Barry, Ranjana Paintal, Erin Loder and Nicole Rinaldi.
