2022-2023 School Supply Ordering & PTC Fundraiser
School supply ordering is open for the fall for both Avoca and Marie Murphy. The packs are at a 12% discount, with proceeds benefiting the PTC. Click here to place your order and use the following codes:

 Avoca West: AVO021
Marie Murphy: MUR066

Marie Murphy Sale Note: 6th-grade packs include a regular calculator; 7th and 8th do not. If you cannot reuse yours, the school will sell you one for a nominal fee when needed. Also, all packs include inexpensive headphones. Art packs are sold separately.

Please review the lists online in addition to ordering your packs. There are items needed like gym clothes and advanced calculators that you may or may not need to purchase. This is especially important if you are new to the district for 7th or 8th grade.

Every school supply your child will need in the fall will be taken care of and will be waiting in the classroom on their first day of school!

Bike to School
The annual Bike-to-School Day is Thursday, May 26. Dairy Queen coupons will be provided to any rider wearing a helmet - this is an especially important reminder for the Marie Murphy students.

CommunIDEE
It has been a little while since we have convened a meeting for CommunIDEE and many of you new to the district may not even know of its existence. We will have our first in-person meeting since 2019 on June 1, 2022, from 6:30-7:30 PM in the Avoca ITC. We will talk about what program options for next year. If you have questions, want more information, or if cannot attend but have ideas, please email Ami Das at [email protected]

CommunIDEE is a PTC subgroup committed to having brave spaces to have difficult conversations around sensitive topics centered on identity, inclusivity, equity, and action/education.
A brave space is inclusive of all races, ethnicities, sexual and gender identities, abilities, immigration status, and lived experiences. Everyone in the space acknowledges there may be some discomfort, and differences will be met with compassion and respect.

ADL Parents Night Out
Please join parents and caregivers on Thursday, June 2 from 7-9 p.m. at Stormy's Tavern & Grille as we gather for support, friendship, and to send off our group’s co-founder Louise Dechovitz. Please RSVP to Helen at 312-550-2077 by text.

Outdoor BBQ Party for 7th & 8th Graders
In celebration of Orion’s graduation, an early birthday party for Arielle, and their move to Carbondale, their dad, Stuart Weisberg is inviting all interested 7th and 8th-grade families and interested staff to join them on June 4, 2022, at the Blue Star Shelter 1 in Harms Woods. There will be grill space, lawn games, and music! For more details about campsite amenities, space, and what to bring, please email Stuart at [email protected]. Note: This is not a school- or district-sponsored event.

Avoca’s PTC Green Committee will provide gloves and bags for the cleanup and direct volunteers. If you have work gloves or a small bucket at home, please bring them along to use during the cleanup. Email Maya with any questions or for more information at [email protected]

5th Grade End-of-Year Party
The committee is still collecting fees and pictures for the party, which will take place on Friday, June 3, from 12:30-2:30 p.m, outside at Avoca West. If you have not done so already, please pay your $30 Party Fee via PayPal or check payable to the Avoca PTC or cash. Label your payment envelope with your child’s name and teacher. Have your child give this to their teacher. Pictures: submit a 3x5 physical copy of your child’s kindergarten photo to your class teacher AND email a digital copy of your child’s kindergarten photo to [email protected]A friendly reminder this event is for students, teachers, and parent volunteers only.

The final Student Recognition Ceremony of the 2021-22 school year will take place at the May 19, 2022 Board of Education Meeting. Students are nominated and recognized for their exemplary actions consistent with District values, which will soon be replaced by values identified in the Portrait of a Graduate as adopted alongside the new Strategic Plan.

In addition to recognizing our Science Olympiad team for qualifying for Nationals and our Boys' Varsity and JV teams for winning conference, we will recognize a host of other students for academic growth, leadership in Fine Arts, Spanish poetry, Debate, and more.
