Grading and Assessments

During each unit of study, students will be expected to keep an up-to-date science section in their portfolio folder or binder.  The science work contained in the folder should provide one with a fuller picture than the grades listed in this PowerGrade report. Because of the nature of certain activities, some papers have been collected and graded while others are only discussed in class.  However, all activities should be completed to the best of a child's ability.

Quarter grades in science will be based on homework assignments, class activities, lab reports, quizzes, tests, class participation, and sometimes projects.  The actual breakdown of category weights varies from one grading period to the next but an emphasis is placed on lab reports, homework assignments, and tests. Semester 1 grades are an average of Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 grades and Semester 2 grades are an average of Quarter 3 and Quarter 4.

For the most up-to-date report of a student's grades, parents should logon to PowerSchool at https://avoca.powerschool.com/public/home.html.  The grades in PowerSchool are constantly being updated.  Late work does not receive full credit.  Not all daily assignments receive a grade.
